Corrections / Observations | Correct venue but wrong dates. Mixed set lists from both nights. Listed as 1969-07-02 & 1969-07-03 - Tape also included the 1972-03-22 Dark Star - however the track wasn't performed at that show but possibly the 1972-03-23 show. Dick has Alligator > That's It For The Other One > St Stephen > etc, which didn't happen. Both shows had Turn On Your Lovelight so not sure which one he is referring to | |

Dick's Review | I was practically going to erase this after the first hearing but now after 2 hearings I feel it would be a loss, even though the quality is almost unbearable. (I guess as I get more involved in this crazy business, one comes to keep a lot of shows that are terrible quality!) Well this one is a fucking wild sonofabitch. I, like Rob, feel that this is one of the more amazing shows in Dead history. I don’t know of any other tape with Mountains Of The Moon and Dupree's Diamond Blues and never has Green Green Grass Of Home been seen before. It also must mark the first appearance of Casey Jones which is really done in an unusual way. As for the long jam, it is very unusual starting out with unique material within The Other One that I can’t remember hearing elsewhere. The jam continues into a decent Saint Stephen and then devastates us with powerful, tasty and exciting trips within The Eleven. Turn On Your Lovelight also sounds extra special with every one playing especially fine in fact it just might be the best version of Turn On Your Lovelight that I know of! |
