Dick's Review | Another rare show that is very similar in quality to 6/24/70 - Port Chester, NY, maybe a little worse but the comparison ends there since this is a very unusual and exciting show. The Dark Star jam is one of the most incredible versions I’ve ever heard of this tune. Pigpen gets into another rare rap during Turn On Your Lovelight that has everyone quite excited. As another indication of how incredible this performance is they do an acoustic version Cold Jordan > Swing Low Sweet Chariot > To Lay Me Down just after Pigpen tells everyone to Go Home and Fuck! | |

Dick's 2nd Review | What makes the Dark Star so unusual is a section near the end of the segment which is actually a theme usually occurring during Dancin' In The Streets. It is just suddenly inserted within the general feeling of Dark Star. The Not Fade Away section has some interesting playing especially the Darkness Jam and then a jam section (that is from China Cat Sunflower!) sort of develops that is very nice before closing the tune. |
