| Dick's Review | Quality is not very good but it certainly is decent to listen to. This show is somewhat famous at least in my mind for the unique feedback that the band gives to someone who is messing with the levels of the monitor speakers. A little action occurs at the beginning after Smokestack Lightning. But the most interesting part comes when Weir gets on this poor guy’s case during Anthem and at the end of the song after Big Boss Man in the late show. As far as the show goes the early show is pretty uneventful. There is some very nice playin at the end of Truckin' which is one of their early attempts at this song. Dancin' In The Streets is average but considering the show up to this point it is one of the highlights. Everything changes very profoundly once we get into the closing jam from the early show. Saint Stephen makes one wonder how potent this would sound if we had an excellent quality tape. Not Fade Away > Goin' Down The Road Feelin' Bad is average but it is nice the way highlight explodes out of the end of Goin' Down The Road Feelin' Bad. The late show is much better quality (and a much better show). Saint Stephen gets really intense near the end. Not close to 10/15/70 - St Louis though!) There is a great riff at the end of a very good Not Fade Away that seems to come from Dark Star or some other piece. There is also some exciting playing on the return to Not Fade Away that is perhaps the highlight of a fine set. |
