Dick's Review | Here Comes Sunshine is always a great start but here it doesn’t come off as exciting as usual. Beat It On Down The Line is started but when Billy fucks up at counting to 20 they stop, laugh, restart for 5. Although I didn’t feel particularly knocked out by much in the 1st set, it is all quite enjoyable and uptempo. I wish they would go back to this old style of They Love Each Other. You Ain't Woman Enough is another unique treat from this period. Weather Report Suite is easily the most extensive and creative segment of the 1st set. Playin' In The Band is even better but not as involving as lots of other versions from this period. The two middle tunes are nothing special but the final section of Playin' In The Band has the best and most interesting playing so far. He’s Gone has a nice ending section to it and Truckin' has an excellent finish that almost could qualify as a jam section. This is the most exciting playing so far. Wharf Rat also has an exceptional ending. I'm beginning to feel that this show might have something more to offer besides a good quality recording. Sugar Magnolia is ok. The remainder is also ok. I guess you had to have been there to get the “rush” from this show. It is ok. There are many better ones from this year. |
