Dick's Review | As it seems with most 1972-1973 shows there is nothing much happening during the 1st set. Actually as I listen to this recording, it is worse than I thought at first. Weir’s guitar is missing a lot and the rest it sounds very muddy and distant. The speed also sounds a bit slow. Playin' In The Band has some nice jazzy sections before dropping into Mississippi Half Step. The re-entry back into Playin' In The Band is very spacey and so far it is the highlight of a rather uneventful show. The jam section following He’s Gone is kind of nice flowing along in the basic patterns of He’s Gone before finally getting into Truckin' which is special, primarily because of the extended playing after the words are over. Nobody’s Fault But Mine is very unique and lasts quite longer than usual. |
