Dick's ReviewIt seems like each cut has something extra on it. You can hear Phil’s contribution quite well. Overall, there aren’t many superb shows from this year and this has always seemed like one of the best 1974 has to offer. Mississippi Half Step is surprisingly intense for this early period of its development. I have to put stars by every tune. Each gives you so much more than one is used to hearing. It has to be the quality. Superb. China Cat Sunflower is almost everything I want from it. It is long and has that great style of transition into I Know You Rider that I wish they could find their way back to. The only problem here is that this version doesn’t really explode as others do. Bertha has a strange reggae-style rhythm and sounds more like They Love Each Other. Eyes Of The World is usually pretty involving in 1974 and this attempt is up to par. Not outstanding as the 10/74 versions. I don’t think I’ve ever heard the build up at the end of Truckin' to go into such high notes. The following Jam section just might be the highlight of this show. It is quite lengthy (24 min) and has the divers coming up with a few pearls and one primal theme thriller that is a bit under-played. Still is clearly the high point for me! This jam section now continues to try for another gem after 16 minutes and again comes up with a couple of pearls and another primal theme thriller that has a little of the Spanish Jam mixed with some other great themes.
