Dick's Review | At first I thought this was an excellent quality recording (as all have been originated from the vaults of Rob Bertrando) but after listening to it a few times and comparing it to other ‘77 shows (ie 5/7/77, 5/8/77, 5/28/77) I have discovered that this tape doesn’t have nearly as much “presence” as the other 1977 shows. It is too bad since this performance is perhaps the finest one of the whole two month tour. All songs are done with enthusiasm and it was hard to not put a star by each tune. The highlight is the outrageous material presented in the long jam from the 2nd set. They come out of Terrapin Station in a most exciting and unusual way and what follows is exactly the kind of thing that I have come to expect at all Dead shows. Unfortunately it occurs rarely but when it does it is certainly the finest thing on earth. The unreal version Not Fade Away contains a brief taste of Caution. |
