Dick's Review | Better as one gets into the performance which is another superb effort from one of the hottest Winters in many years especially the month of October and May of 1977. He’s Gone is noticeable and get things into a nice feeling. The Other One is very intense and one of the more pleasing versions from the years after 1972. Following this there is some nice stuff that almost lasts long enough to qualify as a jam section. Here it is simply a very nice transition into Black Peter which is very thrilling but doesn’t quite have the finality of the 5-9-78 Syracuse version. Truckin' is fantastic in the same way that I felt about the 9-3-77 version. But following this is the highlight of the show which is a very unique and exciting jam section that flows so smoothly into a vocal version of the rare gem, Nobody’s Fault But Mine as if we haven’t had enough surprises this tune then goes into Aiko Aiko (Iko Iko) which you don’t hear everyday! There is another super transition between this tune and Sugar Magnolia which typically caps most the greatest and most exciting shows. This set deserves a Lighting Skull Award for its superb jam even though the show isn’t complete. |
