Dick's Review | The reason it has taken so long to evaluate this tape and show is because it is the worst of the 3 Winterland shows, both in terms of quality and performance. (It is still somewhat amazing to me that such excellent equipment could only retrieve what is present on these tapes) Actually, after listening to this show once again, the performance is just about as good as the 12/31/77 show, maybe better, but the quality is a little bit weaker (muddier) the highlight without a doubt is the very unique and tantalizing Jam material that follows Eyes Of The World. Carol was asleep during this part and I couldn't believe what was happening! Jerry Moore, Bob Menke and Sandy Troy and others all agreed that this was one of the high points of all 3 nights. Saint Stephen was easily the best one I had ever heard until 1/11/78 LA |
