Dick's Review | Almost identical in all ways to 1-6-78. The vocals are horrendous and it is probably the PA since the quality of the recording is excellent for all instrumental parts. This show mainly stands out for the shortest 1st set show in modern Dead history (40 - 45 min) No that isn’t quite true. The jam from the 2nd set is very nice: Garcia suddenly goes into his “phase-splitter” mode during Estimated Prophet and before you know what happened you’re into a fine drum solo tease that finally lets go with The Other One (a very nice Lesh intro) There is another really tasty jam section within The Other One that is rich with substance and direction keys. Garcia seems inclined to make up for his loss of voice with exceptional playing throughout the show and what is especially good is that his guitar is captured incredibly well. This recording was done with a Magra Open Reel Deck and stereo BNO mike. |
