Dick's Review | The performance is one of the more exciting and aggressive ones. Right from the start there is the feeling that this will be quite a show. Keith plays very nicely on Big River and is heard clearly throughout the show. Even though there weren’t many really exceptional versions in the first set, it still was hardly “laid-back.” Every tune was done well and efficiently. The 2nd set starts off with a smash, but everything seems to build up to the closing jam which is the highlight of the show. Estimated Prophet is really done well and it becomes especially exciting as they come out of He’s Gone and the drums take over with quick and aggressive energy as they play with The Other One rhythm patterns. The Other One is nice but not exceptional and the following jam section is for me the most interesting single aspect of the whole show. It has a similar feeling to the jam section just before Saint Stephen on 12/30/77. Generally speaking this show is better than 4/8/78 but Jacksonville’s show has a few more exciting parts and the quality is also better. |
