Dick's Review | I feel like I’m ready to give some verbalizations but I’ve only heard the show twice. The quality is excellent except for the crowd noise - he had to hold the mikes down since they were busting tapers all day and the difficulties of capturing the sound in a big stadium - 70,000 people. For the 1st time in awhile I was surprised by the performance: a couple new songs, new words to several songs and generally superb playing throughout. Also the standard jam from the 2nd set finally changed from the typical format of almost every show since 1977, even the extended percussion jam is gone. Steve (Rolfe) said he really liked this show and I too feel it is one of the better shows from 1978 but things still haven’t changed that much. The 1st set is very laid-back, almost stodgy. There are wind problems in various places but it isn’t too bad. But everything changes with a somewhat different interpretation of Good Lovin'. Scarlet Begonias > Fire On The Mountain is one of the best versions I've yet heard. Exceptionally fine playing on Estimated Prophet > Eyes Of The World | |
