Dick's Review | I expect to be able to erase this tape since this period of time was what I would call a definite low point. The 1st set is pretty uneventful. It sometimes amazes me that they can play a tune so dull one night and another night it can be the best it’s ever been ie 9-2-78 version of Scarlet Begonias > Fire On The Mountain. Things really start to happen with I Need A Miracle which is easily the most exciting playing so far of this show! He’s Gone has some nice unique styling during the first half. The Other One is pretty good! Maybe this 2nd set is worth keeping. The following jam section is a highlight of the show. Almost qualifies as a Brain-Fry but is more melodic or easier than a real meltdown. The percussion jam is average. The following jam segment is a poor attempt at the style they played when jamming with Hamza El Din in Egypt and a few US dates during this period. What Rat and Sugar Magnolia are both good. |
