Dick's Review | Bob said this show wasn’t nearly as exciting as the night before. This is the 2nd time they did Alabama Getaway and the excitement (of all later versions) is missing which I would never have believed! Even Promised Land isn’t that much more enthusiastically performed. The remainder of the 1st set is lacking in exceptional moments. Although all tunes are done adequately and interestingly there are no real moving versions until we get to the closer. Jack Straw is very good but Deal doesn’t follow up in the same manner. The playing sounds real appetizing during the 2nd set jam. Terrapin Station is “always” the same and Playin' In The Band is where the action is. Maybe it is the great quality of this board that makes things sound so tasty. One of the highlights is the fine Jam section (Brent & Mickey stand out) before the percussion jam which is average. There is a lot of time taken up with Playin' In The Band and this jam section. The percussion doesn’t do much except make the transition to Black Peter which is average in intensity. We get a surprise instead of the usual Around And Around to end a nice jam but not nearly as exciting as 11/5/79 |
