Dick's ReviewThis is one of the better shows but not as good as 12/26/79. Menke clearly favors this show 12/28 as the highpoint of the Oakland shows) The playing is certainly great, as typified by the opening number which really gets your hair to stand up! Not much exciting until the 1st set closer which is thrilling. Things get off to a terrifying (the atmosphere on stage was so intense, I had to leave after the opening medley and get further away from the Power!) pace to start the 2nd set. Alabama Getaway is as good as I can recall and the transition into the Greatest Story Ever Told is the best one yet. Terrapin Station > Playin' In The Band isn’t anything special but the 1st jam section which evolves out of some tasty improvisational work at the end of Playin' In The Band is the highlight of the show. (It is concerned with a devastating Brain-Fry they can really put a little awe in your recipe) Things slow down again until the nice material they get into during the instrumental finish to Uncle John's Band (which in my opinion was performed more excitingly on 12/26/79) The closing medley was adequate but clearly isn’t as thrilling as that of 9/5/79 - MSG which most people don’t rate too highly itself.
