Dick's Review | The opening medley is really promising with Jack Straw being the more exciting. Actually Franklin's Tower is quite rousing. The 1st set is all pretty good with even Tennessee Jed having something special to it. At New Year’s Time we get the usual Sugar Magnolia but what makes this a superb opening is the unusually exciting (Much better than 12/27/79) version of China Cat Sunflower > I Know You Rider. The rest of the 2nd set is also very good. Minglewood Blues is very inspiring. The really tasty part of the closing jam is the breezy feeling they capture before easing into a rip-roaring version of Not Fade Away with John Cippolina assisting. Although rather short! Stella Blue is average. Nice surprise ending. One specially nice aspect of Not Fade Away is how they seem to spend about 3 minutes setting up the mood and getting everyone in a solid groove when Phil and everyone else falls into a more expressive and dynamic statement of the theme. | |

Dick's 2nd Review | The board captures perhaps the best set of the night! Jack Straw > Franklin’s Tower seems as good as I have ever heard it! Looks Like Rain and Alabama Getaway both were above average as is Promised Land |
