Dick's Review | This was the 1st show of 4 that Jed, Tom and I went to and everything seemed a bit exceptional to me although Barry and Bob both feel that the 4 I saw were the least exciting of the whole tour! The Music Never Stopped is about the most exciting thing in the 1st set and it isn’t that great here. Minglewood Blues sounded exceptional on all 4 nights that I saw. Lost Sailor > Saint Of Circumstance felt a little more than unique whereas its usually pretty similar each time. The jam section following a nice Terrapin Station is maybe the highpoint of the show. We would expect a Playin' In The Band here but we get a terrific jam that seems to have more than a little to do with the theme from Playin' In The Band. The percussion jam starts off uptempo and is very pleasing as I thought all percussion jams were in the 4 nights I saw, This one also follows through with intense drumming from within The Beast by both Drummers. The following jam section is another highlight of the show. Its concerned with a nice tasty Brain-Fry but in a more smooth fashion. The transition to a surprising I Need A Miracle is very enjoyable. Also this version of I Need A Miracle is above average although not as long as the 1978 versions. Bertha is also exceptional and Good Lovin' is pretty average ending a very excellent closing jam. |
