Dick's Review | This feels like a big basketball arena. It seems a bit distant. Promised Land is done pretty enthusiastically and excitingly and leads one to feel quite excited about hearing what develops after this. Mexicali Blues is also very hot, the rest of the 1st set isn’t as exceptional as it looks on paper here but it is quite intense and definitely better than most 1st sets. The 2nd set opens with a rare treat! Uncle John’s Band which hasn’t been attempted since 12/79 at Oakland is a nice opening. Although not even close to the intensity of the 12/79 versions! Estimated Prophet is about the same as far as intensity of performance is concerned. Both Eyes Of The World and the percussion jam seemed average. Even the jam section was low-key. I am obviously going to erase the Thunder Skull Award I had given this show when I first heard it. I probably took some acid since I have been erasing red stars ever since!! Truckin' seems to be the most exciting playing of the 2nd set. |
