Dick's Review | Nothing much is happening in the 1st set until surprisingly we get to an intense version of Candyman. Something feels more in focus here and the energy seems more special and magical even if it isn’t so particularly a great musical version of this song. But Little Red Rooster is about as good as it gets! Looks Like Rain is a very nice surprise, it being one of the better versions in years! With a very few exceptions. And we get yet another surprise: A unique and exciting version of Althea. Let it Grow is very intense and has to be the highlight of an excellent 1st set. Deal is also excellent. The 2nd set starts with a rare tune but things don’t develop very much and even Greatest Story Ever Told lacks enthusiasm. Lost Sailor > Saint Of Circumstance is the same as usual (as always!) Terrapin Station is also typical and average but the jam section is really nice and uptempo jamming. Nothing very interesting or noticeable in the percussion jam but the 2nd jam section is clearly the highlight of the show. It has a (scratched out: wonder or the) feeling of wonder of something exciting and magical to come and it soon becomes pretty obvious that this will be The Other One. Although it does seem to do a good job of hiding this fact until the very end. The Other One isn’t great but it is better than usual. Stella Blue is very fine. |
