Dick's Review | Friend Of The Devil > C.C. Rider is pretty nice but To Lay Me Down > Minglewood Blues is really fantastic with the latter being quite exciting. The highlight of this decent 1st set is a rousing version of The Music Never Stopped. The 2nd set opens in a highly unusual fashion with a Jam while Garcia fixes his guitar strings and this is very nice with direction and coherence. Rob said that he was quite impressed with Scarlet Begonias > Fire On The Mountain > Scarlet Begonias but I felt it was just about average with a few minor thrills within Fire On The Mountain. Rob also felt the jam was quite mediocre except for Not Fade Away. Playin' In The Band is sort of laid back without much interest as in the Jam section following. Which is actually pretty much a part of the tune proper, rather than qualifying as something distinct. The 2nd jam section is pretty interesting it being perhaps the highlight of the show so far. Not Fade Away has some very exciting moments but as usual it is very under-developed. Wharf Rat is also very intense and must be viewed as one of the highlights of this better than average show. Around And Around > Johnny B. Goode is quite thrilling and makes this a very good show. |
