Dick's Review | Things start off in excellent fashion with an energetic rendition of Feel Like A Stranger! Althea continues to have some extra to it. and C.C. Rider is always superb. Not much going on after this until a fairly nice let it grow but there isn’t anything very exceptional, that stands out as a highlight from this fairly typical 1st set. Shakedown Street is a fairly rare surprise these days and this version is pretty similar in interest as was the opening tune of the show. Bertha is definitely a big surprise since they stopped doing it pretty much but this version is only average. Lost Sailor > Saint Of Circumstance seems a little more exciting than usual but the 1st jam section is clearly the highlight of the show so far. They get into a variation (laidback if you will) of the Spanish Jam that would knock out anyone who didn’t hear the 5/6/81 Nassau show. Then this jam section continues for about another 5 - 8 minutes of a rambling disjointed and jazzy section which is nothing special, dropping into the percussion jam which has more excitement than usual, but isn’t one of the best at all! The next jam sections meanders for half and then things pick-up where you suspect The Other One but get Truckin' which is pretty good. The following Jam section is an exciting instrumental rendition of Nobody’s Fault But Mine. Stella Blue is great and one of the best of versions. Goin' Down The Road Feelin' Bad is a real rouser but not up to the excitement of 5/6/81 Nassau |
