Dick's ReviewSusie’s best effort to date. This is the show Kidd told me about and was quite impressed with (Phil put cotton in his ears for the 2nd set and that means trouble!) Jack Straw is definitely an indication that this show is going to be a hot one. Not extraordinary but as hot as one would hope for an opening. Sugaree is also very intense but again not nearly one of the better versions. This recording seems to sparkle with intense excitement. Even Mama Tried is noticeably hot as is Mexicali Blues. Things drop off considerably until a very aggressive and intense Let It Grow (Better than average). Don’t Ease Me In is also pretty exciting. Estimated Prophet seems to go on for a long time without much definition or purpose. Eyes Of The World on the other hand is quite entertaining. The 1st Jam section is also very energetic and promising. Both comprising the best playing so far. The percussion jam never gets off the ground. The following jam section continues the lack of anything identifiable. Uncle John’s Band is average and then the good stuff begins with a tasty Playin' In The Band especially the last half. Just before they get into China Doll. Nothing too much after this. In fact things are pretty sloppy.
