Dick's Review | C.C. Rider seems to get the audience excited but it doesn’t match the better versions like 12/3/81 Madison, Wisc. for example! They Love Each Other is also pretty exciting to the audience which makes one want to award a star but Cassidy deserves one. Considerable mike adjustments and/or problems during dead air at this point and earlier. Ramble On Rose has a nice rush which is quite unusual for attempts at this tune. The quality is not completely satisfying still. I think it is a little too boomy not much but noticeable. Let It Grow is probably the best effort of the 1st set which is quite marred with mike problems. Seems like you can never settle down and relax and get comfortable before someone moves or manhandles the mikes. Too bad. Well its not that big of a loss since the 1st set is nothing to write home about. Playin' In The Band feels solid and aggressive for its 10 minute opening statement. Bertha seems to come out of left field. Nice surprise and a decent attempt except for another sudden fuck up on recording levels. Estimated Prophet seems average which is pretty exciting but not close to a big one! Goin' Down The Road Feelin' Bad also appears out of nowhere after an aborted start. As Rob would affirm this is a very unusual place for it to appear. This version is about the most exciting playing so far. The audience and noise is somewhat of a bother from time to time. Mickey gets into things during the Percussion Jam which has some bass distortion problems. The jam section again comes into play in a surprising fashion: right in the midst of some aggressive drumming. This is somewhat brief but quite tasty! Seems like Garcia suddenly decides to give up a big one with Morning Dew. The show hasn’t seemed to deserve such a treat. This attempt is very nice. |
