Dick's Review | Sugaree is one of the better versions that I’ve heard in recent years. C.C. Rider is also very good. This is an excellent and rousing version of Cassidy. (Scratched out: Mexicali Blues gets off nicely) The remainder of the 1st set sucks about as much as the quality of this tape. The second set is from Bob Menke who got it from Russo to being with a while ago. The quality is much better and worth saving unlike the 1st set. Playin' In The Band is a good start but not much development to it. Shakedown Street is uneventful and out of the mire comes hope: Bertha which is not much of an improvement upon the level of intensity on this show. Things pick up to say the least after an average percussion jam in the following jam section. This has about 5 minutes of tentative exploration before the Spanish Jam is signaled. Scratched out: This attempt is one of the best and most developed other than the king of them all: 5/6/81 Nassau) this attempt is similar to 12-3-81 Madison but not nearly as involving. Truckin' is OK but nothing is going to save this show now. Black Peter has some unique jamming at the end which is one of the more exciting moments of the show. Sugar Magnolia is nice. |
