Dick's Review | Shakedown Street is one of the best versions I have heard in a long while. You can feel that they mean business in Paris! Minglewood Blues is also a burner. Great opening! Even Me And My Uncle has some extra strength following a small fuck up. Big River is really spirited also. Athea is very good and Little Red Rooster has something noticeably extra on it. The remainder of the 1st set is done well but no significant highlights. I guess one could say that they made the most out of the song list which leaves a lot to be desired. Other than the opener. Truckin' opens the 2nd set in Thunder Skull Award fashion. One of the more intense versions from modern years. Bird Song is also exceptional with some unique styling during the instrumental parts. Good Time Blues is very compelling one of the better versions. Estimated Prophet is excellent and thrilling and has some superb playing in the last few minutes as it sets up Eyes Of The World. This goes a long way towards synching up a Thunder Skull Award if they continue with this same degree of intensity for the remainder of the show there will be no doubt! Eyes Of The World is just about as good as it gets these days. The most surprising aspect of this excellent show is that the percussion jam is very exciting and interesting in a way I can’t remember hearing in awhile. (Scratched out: Forget everything previous <<<< It must have been the acid!. The following jam section is only rivalled in originality inspiration and excitement by 5-6-81 Nassau. The playing is on a whole new dimension of intensity and commitment. I can't say enough. Wow! (Scratched Out Ends) Not Fade Away starts out like gangbusters and is uptempo and brings goosebumps all over. This might be the best version since 5/7/79 Easton, PA. Best Morning Dew since 5/8/77-Ithaca NY. P.S. Even Around And Around and One More Saturday Night are killing. There isn’t a weak moment in this 2nd set. Maybe one of the top 5 in modern years! |
