| Dick's Review | After this show was over I felt like it was one of the best I’d ever seen! A lot of it had to do with the fact that they never played the 27th (of this 5 show cycle at the end of the years 1979 - 1982) with any kind of excitement and this time they played a fine show. Things start off in an excellent fashion with Sugaree being the highlight. This is a clean, direct, and succinct attempt that really got me off. C.C. Rider is also pretty inspiring. The quality of the sound gets much better after the beginning. Everything sounds very intimate. Excellent quality recording. I also felt Cassidy had some unusual playing as they began the instrumental rise after the 1st series of lyrics. The closing 1st set medley is a fine finish with all 3 tunes having about equal juice. One of the better 1st sets in awhile! Playin' In The Band is chock full of tasty playing and it seems quite a bit longer than usual. The percussion jam seems to have more intensity and conviction than usual. The following jam section is perhaps my favorite part of the show. It is a quite lengthy segment that flows nicely out of the drums and continues in an exploratory type of style until things come together for a melt down of sorts. Very exceptional playing. The playing is good on the remainder of the jam but nothing jumped out at me except a thrilling attempt at Sugar Magnolia. | |
