Dick's Review | The show was most everyone’s favorite from these southern shows. They start off in electrifying fashion with perhaps my favorite version of China Cat Sunflower > I Know You Rider. It is so thrilling and intense! Not much is happening after an excellent rendition of Mama Tried > Mexicali Blues. The 2nd set opening medley is pretty good but not as intense as the versions at Oakland at the end of the year. Terrapin Station for the 1st time that I can remember besides the 3/18/77 version of course is noticeably unique in terms of different instrumentation by Garcia in several places. Playing In The Band is also especially exciting. They get into a nice Brain-Fry during the jam section which seems quite long and entertaining. Nothing too interesting after this until we get to Wharf Rat which is very much burning with energy. Sugar Magnolia is noticeable with its excitement. I still feel that the start of the show is its best part. |
