Dick's Review | Mississippi Half Step > Franklin's Tower is very good with an added rouser Minglewood Blues tacked on to give evidence that they are ready to deliver a hot show. Even Row Jimmy draws out an unusually strong response but I didn’t hear anything special. I am quite shocked to hear Althea played so excitingly at this early stage. Must be the 1st really intense version, actually now that I’ve reviewed my records this tune has always had it’s high moments! Feel Like A Stranger is pretty good ending a very fine 1st set that the crowd was clearly excited about. Little Red Rooster doesn’t get off the ground but China Cat Sunflower > I Know You Rider is very exciting although not one of the best for sure. Estimated Prophet is exceptional but I didn’t much notice Eyes Of The World. The percussion jam is pretty good then quite a surprising inclusion of Playin' In The Band which is excellent. Then yet another surprise: Comes A Time. The re-entry back into Playin' In The Band is also longer than usual and entertaining. Then this quite unusual 2nd set song selection continues with a rousing finish of Alabama Getaway. Also one of the longer continuous pieces of music ever. Excellent opening show. |
