Dick's Review | Rob liked this one pretty much and I tend to agree. The 1st set is very nice with Playin' In The Band being the obvious highlight: extended improvisation in a fast aggressive style. The 2nd set gets off to a rousing start and for the 1st time I finally notice a unique He’s Gone. Here they really put a lot extra into it and it has to be the best version ever. There is a nice long Space before Truckin' which is pleasing variations on the theme from He’s Gone. This version of Truckin' is exceptional in that it has a quite long section at the end that bounces along in an exciting manner that eventually builds to what seems like The Other One but 1st a nice and short drum solo that soon comes to a complete stop and Phil takes over and we are off into my favorite tune. And this version starts off in a burning and relentless fashion and goes on and on for a long time before getting into a jam section that is very different from The Other One theme but is similar in its ferocious attack and this is clearly one of the finer points of this great show! It contains a great section of improvisational solo rhythm guitar work by Weir, although it is quite short. Then we are treated to a Lesh solo which gets us back to The Other One and after about 30 min or so we finally get to the 1st verses! Stella Blue is very strong, as is Big River and almost everything else on this show. |
