Dick's Review | As I remember this show has a lot to offer. Even so I probably will still erase this tape since I’m sure I can find a good board copy. As usual, Scarlet Begonias and Playin' In The Band are the only involving playing in the 1st set. Now I remember why I thought highly of this show: It is the 82-min jam that starts the 2nd set. There is a long experimental period once the band joins Lesh and Lagin. Actually he leaves at this point. This jam section lasts quite a long time (35-min) and is entertaining at the least. It isn’t an aggressive attack as in most Brain-Frys but it is creative and involving. It seems so easy to get absorbed into this style of playing even though there is no apparent direction or focus. Near the end of this jam section, Lesh has a nice bass solo and the intensity of approach increases. Eyes Of The World is another highlight. |
