Dick's Review | The quality is excellent, in fact it is devastating! It is so fantastic to hear Jerry and Keith clearly, their interplay on the lead lines being one of the finer jewels in their basket. But usually one only hears Garcia with the piano clearly in the background, on this recording, everything is just exactly perfect and the performance is as great as the quality of the recording. There are some sound problems with this tape during the 1st 2 songs but it gets right from then on. Each tune is worked very tightly, clean, and efficient, This is definitely what one would call a tight, very hot show! (In the tradition of 5/7/77, 5/8/77, 1/22/78, 1/13/78, 12/29/77, 11/4/77, 11/6/77, 6/4/77, 6/8/77, and 2/26/77 . . . ) Sugaree only has 2 peaks now. The jam from the 2nd set is really fine. I can’t seem to think of any words to express it but each tune is performed superbly. The Drums > Jam is probably the highlight of the show. The Other One is one of the better versions and the 2nd jam section is really another highlight. And yet one more incredible mindlow! The best version so far of Sugar Magnolia (better than 5/10/78 - New Haven) The only problem with this tape is that it is over recorded. |
