| Dick's Review | The 1st set starts out pretty good but nothing special. Nothing much happening until a fairly average (but still exciting) China Cat Sunflower > I Know You Rider. The 2nd set opens in a dull fashion. The entry into Truckin' (by Phil) is one of the most appropriate intros I can imagine to this tune. The good shit starts at the end of Truckin' which is uneventful. This jam section is uptempo and very spontaneous and/or unusual. Easily the best playing of the show so far at least. This 1st jam section goes on and on for about 10 minutes or so and is very enjoyable. The percussion jam is ok but nothing special. The 2nd jam section is pretty tasty as they set up The Other One in an exciting and thrilling manner. One of the highlights along with the 1st jam section. The Other One is very intense. It being one of the better versions from recent years and is the major highlight of the show. Another special treat is that they surprisingly continue on The Other One after its usual ending and they flirt with the Spanish Jam along with other tasty variations on the theme of The Other One. After a better than average Stella Blue, we get a surprise with an usual finish. Instead of just Sugar Magnolia, I Need A Miracle is a token expression of an attempt. Nice change to Goin' Down The Road Feelin' Bad which is quite exciting although not up to 5/6/81 Nassau. If that is possible!!!! One More Saturday Night is a rousing climax to a fine 2nd set jam. |
