| Dick's Review | A show that most people felt somewhat disappointed with. As Steve said it wasn’t that they played poorly it was just that we expected more after such great shows at the Garden (3/9 and 10/81. The 1st set is practically below average with nothing standing out (even a little bit!) except China Cat Sunflower > I Know You RIder which is very good. The 2nd set starts out in a very energetic fashion with a rousing version of Alabama Getaway but the 2nd half of this medley isn’t as good as usual. Lost Sailor > Saint Of Circumstance is as usual, nothing special. The percussion jam has a nice timbale section. The Other One is nothing special and as is Stella Blue. The transition into Bertha is kind of unprepared but exciting. Both Bertha and Good Lovin' are very well done but don’t come close to redeeming a less than average performance to say the least! |
