Both Barry and Bob Wagner felt these New Haven shows were exceptional. The opening medley looks interesting on paper but actually is quite average if that is possible with these tunes. Nothing much after It’s All Over Now although the versions are certainly worth hearing! Scarlet Begonias changes everything. Now it feels intense and this version has one exceptionally exciting peak before dropping into Fire On The Mountain which is pretty good. C.C. Rider has some unusual sounds coming from Brent’s mouth which adds to the feeling that things are moving in an exciting direction. Playin' In The Band sounds especially interesting with its aggressive and sensitive development. The percussion Jam is very fast paced and exciting. The jam section is fairly long but doesn’t accomplish much. The reentry into Playin' In The Band is quite intense and exemplifies the exceptional nature of this 2nd set. Everything after this is quite nice but not noteworthy. |
