Corrections / Observations | Received two tapes - one in '76 and another in '78. Two notes dedicated to the shows - for the most part he rated it the same way except the older tape got a red star for Cold Rain And Snow. The '81 review is on the '78 tape

Dick's Review | This isn’t as exciting a show as I expected, and the quality is excellent, it is a fine performance with excellent versions of The Music Never Stopped and Sugar Magnolia. The jam is not as exciting as most any other show from the 1976 tour.

Dick's 2nd Review | Actually the jam is quite fine (after a 2nd hearing) and the jam and drum solo constitute the best part of the 2nd set outside of a very good Sugar Magnolia (I still think 7/18/76 is the best version of this tune)

Dick's 3rd Review | I didn’t notice that much in the 1st set until a very nice version of Fenario (Peggy-O). Obviously, the highlight is the very exciting closing medley. The Music Never Stopped is quite intense but Scarlet Begonias is definitely more than one would expect at this period. The 2nd set opens with a fine (good scratched out) version of Playin' In The Band and it is noticeably more interesting than 7/14/76! next we get a treat, Cosmic Charlie which they drop on 9/25/76. The jam section is the highlight of the show. Here they get into the famous Spanish Jam Theme in a highly thrilling and different way. A very exciting drum solo follows which soon falls into The Wheel, which is quite intense at the end and seamlessly flows into the re-entry to Playin' In The Band. This part is really a nice and relaxed and pleasant style. Sugar Magnolia is very exciting. |
