Dick's Review | Dave (Weidner) said that this was the show for the hard-core Dead freaks from all of the January tour! That maybe a little optimistic considering some of the shows, ie 1/15/79, 1/10/79, 1/12/79, etc. It has all the marks of a great show as they begin with a rare treat and continue in a most sparkling and exciting manner as they evoke the essence of every tune. The quality is crystal clear and bright and heavily contributes to my feelings of enthusiasm for this show. The only real problem is the PA which fucks up several times throughout the show. Beginning during They Love Each Other. The 1st set is good and all tunes are performed well but no real standouts. The 2nd set opens with a rousing version of this medley and is the most thrilling thing so far but with the good comes some bad: The PA distorts throughout I Need A Miracle but then ceases for awhile. Estimated Prophet > Eyes Of The World > Drums is all good but not exceptional. Actually the whole jam is of that nature which is pretty surprising. | |

Dick's 2nd Review | Big River is exceptional. I Need A Miracle is done in the way that is way more exciting than current (1980s) versions. Long and instrumental jamming before rolling into Bertha. |
