Dick's Review | Finally scored an excellent board of the whole show. This is one of my all time favorites because of the most thrilling way they go from He's Gone into The Other One. I was on stage for this and it still is my favorite version of this common transition. There are a few other highlights but not worthy of a Lightning Skull Award. The 1st set starts off with a tasty version of Shakedown Street but it becomes pretty low-key after this. The 2nd set opening medley is good but nothing close to where they go in the final jam. The Other One is one of my favorites. Although I must admit that I was more excited at 12-28-80 Oakland! One interesting aspect to this show is that Phil’s bass sound has an unusual raspiness and is more prominent or noticeable than usual and it makes for one of my all time favorite versions of The Other One. The percussion jam is quite aggressive with both drummers playing intensely all the way through, Truckin' (One of the best ever!!) is another extra special treat that provided a fitting climax to one of my more thrilling moments on earth. Garcia reaches a high point during Truckin' that has not been ever done before or since and adds to how super fine this night was. |
